Sunrise Christmas Variety Night – Dec 13th, 2024

Sunrise Community Church is inviting us to bring 40 students to their Christmas variety night. There will be skits, songs, poems, and dessert.

When: Friday, December 13th, 2024
Where: Sunrise Community Church
Rides are offered from in front of Old St. Stephen’s College (near HUB Mall) at 6:15 PM, and the event starts at 7 PM.

Christmas Camp Dec 20 – 22nd

Join International Christmas Camp at Pioneer Lodge near Sundre! Pioneer Lodge is inviting us to bring a minimum of 25 students to Christmas Camp! Come for skating, sledding, snow-shoeing, and a traditional turkey dinner!

Dates: December 20-22nd, 2024
Location: Pioneer Lodge near Sundre, AB
Cost: Around $200 before December 6th, last day to register is December 15th

Come for supper at James & Ann’s home one Friday a month. 

All students and visiting scholars are welcome to come for supper at James & Ann’s home one Friday a month. The next dinner will be January 10th, 2024. Meet and get to know new people from all around the world while enjoying free supper from 6:30-9:00 PM! Enjoy games, optional Bible discussion, and much more at our event! If you want to travel with other students from the university, meet on the ground floor of the University HUB Mall LRT station at 5:30 PM and look for one of our student leaders holding an International Friendship Group sign. Or come directly to James & Ann’s home at 826 Ryan Place NW. Contact John for more info at jianlon2@ualberta.ca). Students from any university or college in Alberta are welcome to come.

Monthly Supper with a Canadian Family (This is not one of our IFG programs)

Families from a local church, Supper Club, are welcoming international students for supper once a month (about 4-6 students per family). The spaces are now full, if you would more information or put on a waiting list for next semester, please contact Tony Tira at tonytira@yegsupperclub.ca

Welcome to DISCOVER! 

Every Wednesday in Rutherford Lounge in HUB Mall from 6:30-8:30 PM. We’ll eat some food and then have a discussion related to Jesus and the Bible.  Any students or scholars are welcome. We enjoy healthy dialogue; we will not pressure anyone to change beliefs.

Mark West 2024 During Reading Week, Feb. 14-19, 2025

Welcome to Mark West 2025! Come and spend a lot of time studying the book of Mark from the Bible while also enjoying some indoor activities like arrow tag, climbing wall, life-size dutch blitz, basketball, and volleyball. And some outdoor activities (weather permitting) like horseback riding, snowshoeing, snowman building, skating, and shooting bb guns! We’ll be studying with students from various Alberta high schools, colleges, and universities.

Dates: February 14-19, 2025 (part of Reading Week)
Location: At Circle Square Ranch-Halkirk near Stettler, Alberta
Cost: The cost for the camp is $350 for students and includes everything such as all sessions, meals, lodging, transportation, and activities.

Registration closes on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11:45 PM.

Conversational English

Starting Oct 1, a Conversational English group will meet in the IFG office (HUB 8901) 4pm-5pm on Tuesdays. Contact Ruth at papays@telus.net for more information.

Here are some opportunities at local churches to practice conversational English. These are not our IFG programs. There are 2 online classes and 4 in-person classes. The website is https://eslconversationcafe.ca/

Are you curious about the Bible?

Some students are curious about the Bible. If you are interested in attending a one hour Bible discussion at a time that works for you every week for four weeks, you can talk to James. It would be a no-pressure discussion for students who are new to the Bible.
